Bringing Reason to the Christmas Season - Again

Welcome to the Reason4TheSeasonContest home page, and the second annual Reason4TheSeasonContest Holiday Song Challenge.  Started in 2007, we offer a cash prize to the best new lyrics to an old (yet sadly religious) holiday classic.

The results are in!  There's a new atheist Silent Night!

Our judging committee reviewed all the entries and has decided the new official Reason4TheSeasonContest atheist/humanist lyrics to the tune of "Silent Night" are:
    Silent night, hopeful night
All is calm, all is bright
Round each father, mother and child
Cherished infant so tender and mild
    Sleep in innocent peace
    Sleep in innocent peace

    Silent night, hopeful night
    All rejoice at the sight
Beauties stream from night skies afar
Starry visions bring wonder and awe
On Winter’s wings, Spring is borne
On Winter’s wings, Spring is borne

    Silent night, hopeful night
Child of man, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from every child’s face
Speak the dreams of each nation and race
    And sing, of Nature’s rebirth
    And sing, of Nature’s rebirth
The song lyrics were written by Maureen O'Neill, from Katy, Texas.  Maureen was a contributor in last year's contest as well, and this year she takes the grand prize of $500.  Congratulations Maureen.

Our thanks to all who submitted entries.
